I need to change the color in my kitchen from
"icey-minty-green"
to something else.
I thought I settled on "belguim waffle".
But it's not looking as "belguim" as I thought!
Instead, it's looking
VERY YELLOW!
Help me people!
What should I do?

My question is why was it mint green in the first place? Did someone throw up on it?
Lindsay, although a great question, you're not helping! I'm looking for some real live help here people!
And if you must know...it's mint green because I thought it was more of a celery green, which is/was supposed to be a great color of the year. Well, as soon as I painted it green and hung the cabnets, we invited over the RS Pres and she said, "oh, aren't you so excited...you get to paint it any color you want instead of this awful green color." I kinda got the hint right then and there that it was a bad color.
Anyone else want to make fun of me...
I would love to make fun of you, but lets be honest...where to start?
Dearest Brittni - as with Lindz, also, you are not helping.
Can no one see that I'm crying out for help?
This looks like a job for the decor consultant a.k.a. Miles Anderson. Just a bit of advice though, you might want to clean your house up a little before he comes and PLEASE don't open the door in a tanktop when he arrives. Just trying to be helpful. Your BFF.
Here is my honest opinion:
Keep the yellow, paint the cabinets black. Serious. My neighbor did that and it looks so good. She also distressed the black cabinets. When she was describing it to me before I saw it I thought she was insane, but then I ate my words when I saw the results. GULP
I am horrible at picking paint colors! Just ask Nalani. She drove up one weekend and helped me paint my kitchen a few years ago. And just like you- I thought it was too yellow. (Although we had to finish the whole kitchen before I was SURE I hated it.) Nalani was not amused when she found out that the name of the paint color was Popcorn. She thought I should have KNOWN it would be yellow. I think they should have named it Buttered Popcorn, and saved us all the trouble...anyway, we re-painted the whole kitchen. (Well, Caleb and I did!)
I just finished a wall in my living room. And, once again, I wish the paint company had just called "Baby Diarrhea" and saved me the trouble......now I thinkI have to re-paint that too.
Oh dearest Natalie, baby dirrhea would probably look better than minty green! And I'm sorry Carrie, but I think I would have to see the yellow first before I gave my consent. Yellow just doesn't do it for me. I'm with Brit, call in the big dawg, Melos.
Okay-I think the yellow with black cabinets is a good idea. But, if you don't want all the work of painting the cabinets I know a great color. It is a Qual Howell Paint color called Sienna Sand. It seriously goes with everything. It is a great basic tan with a tint of yellow. I did my kitchen in that color and loved it so much I did most of the main floor walls and the halls in my house. If you want to pay a little less than Qual Howell paint-just take the paint chip into Home Depot and they will match it and mix up the exact same color. They do a great job. Anyway-it might be worth a try.
Now there we go Kilgore! THATS WHAT I CALL HELP! You have won the secret BFF contest. I had a need, you stepped up to the plate, listend to me whine, and offered an easy solution. You are now my new BFF!
Miss Conginiality BFF goes to Carrie. While a great solution to my problem, TOO MUCH WORK! I'm a five minute or less kind of a gal...ask Ian.
(Don't worry Brittni, don't tell anyone, but you're still my real BFF because you had the RIGHT answer - MILES!)
Honorable Mention goes to:
Sarah - for telling a great story which included Nalanis smartass remarks! That really made me laugh!
And Lindsay gets nothing...because she is still making fun of my original mint green walls, just like that painfully honest RS President! (But I still love you Lindsay because you are my favorite baby sister!)
You know what Nat? The truth hurts ok, just deal with it. And that is why I believe I've helped you the most. YOU ARE WELCOME, yes you are!
What about me? I want a title . . . wait, maybe I don't. Definitely call Miles . . . . well, maybe not because I seem to remember you trying to help him paint his front entry and he's still re-painting it for the 19th time. Pretty soon the wall is just going to collapse! I've always thought that red looks good in kitchens, but it's a crap to paint red (I think you have to do multiple coats). Also, I think that red would look good with your theme (is it still the Italian villa?). I'm going to say NEGATORY on the yellow (at least don't do Second Coming Yellow like I have in my laundry and bathroom) also try to avoid Passion Fruit which is supposed to look like peach, but ends up being very pink like my other bathroom. Don't paint you cabinets . . . I see something awful happening there.
I think you should do a burnt orange color. I think that would make everything else POP.
i was just online looking at stuff regarding my kitchen cabinets and stumbled on your kitchen dillema discussion! i highly recommend 2 colors (that could work w/ your current white cabinets and counters. i used a color from Lowe's called "earthy cane" (i think the brand is valspar) - it's a golden/tanish color...it looks amazing as a neutral w/out being too yellow or blah tan. i think home depot may sell it or can color match it as well. we've used it in several houses and get constant compliments on it. also, i see on rachael ray quite a bit the use of that earthy tangerine color...sounds wild, but with everything else neutral, it could look great (almost like a terra-cotta meets deep tangerine). good luck and happy painting!
